Avengers Forever (1998) # 1-12, Avengers Infinity (2000) # 1-4

(I originally read these comics in March 2015)

At some point in the future I hope to come back and provide a thorough review of these comics, like I should have done the first time around. This entry continues Kurt Busiek's run on Earth's Mightiest Heroes, with Roger Stern assisting.

What I do recall of 'Avengers Forever' is that it must be one of the most epic stories Marvel has published. It features countless callbacks to previous events in the Marvel Universe and Avengers comics in particular, many of which I haven't read but still managed to follow without too much effort. Busiek and Stern might be considered "old school" writers, but they actually care about continuity. They make you believe the MU is a vast tapestry which actually does hold together through the decades. This is increasingly rare in modern super-hero comics, I think.

This is one reason I prefer Marvel comics to the movies. Because there are dozens of comics published by Marvel every month, the stories form an ever-expanding web which is incredibly rich and complex. I've never seen continuity as a turn-off. I was always intrigued how the little jigsaw piece I might have been reading at the time fit into the larger whole. The movies, because they're appearing at a rate of just two a year, can't begin to compete.
